Resolved: Took all my points and then didn't send the gift cards

Company fixed the issue and I have been provided with full refund. full refund. call them.

Original review Oct 27, 2025

Choice Hotels sent a proposal that I renew my hotel points for gift cards. After submitting all my member points (48,000) for $150 in Amazon gift cards, Choice Hotels said the cards would be 'mailed' (not digitally sent, which would have prevented the issue). After the cards were never received, I called Choice Hotels customer service, and they said, 'Too bad - we mailed (US Post) the cards, and we are not responsible for your loss,' and they do not have any records of the mailing or the gift card numbers.

Near drowning in inaccurate depth labeled pool.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

My 15-year-old daughter nearly drowned in an incorrect depth marked pool that seems to be sinking in the middle and few other areas at the Addison Hotel Airport location in El Paso Texas. It's one of there two indoor pools (one is great and leveled correctly).

My daughter is 5'5" and daughter-in-law, who was also with me (Mom) and she's also 5'5". I'm 5'2" and a very accomplished swimmer. My daughter is a mid level swimmer, meaning she can swim underwater very well; top of water semi-well; and can float and "doggy-paddle"very well. We had just got in and noticed that beyond the steps where you get in that the cement at the bottom was sloping downward way beyond the 4' Mark.

I look over my shoulder and my daughter was in the middle of the pool and all I saw was her face going under and panic in her flailing arms. I go over to get her, only about 5 feet away thank God, and I was on my feet at the bottom, holding her up with at least a foot of water over my head. Remember, I'm 5'2", she's 5'5" so she should have been able to stand on her feet with the water level a foot at least remaining. After I got her calmed down, I, being the better swimmer, checked that pool by walking it (hands pushing me down instead of up) and there was at least a foot and a half of water over my head.

We went back to the room, then ordered room service, while I tried to calm her down. So room service shows up, and when the girl wheeled it in, she knocked over one of the drinks, (incidentally mine, onto one of the dishes (also mine) without offering to replace the food etc. I called so-called management about the pool and that they were just waiting for a tragedy to occur and meet with the most callous of remarks by manager I've ever heard, which were precisely "If you must have read the sign posted no lifeguard on premises, blah, blah, at your own risk." I could not believe my ears. She'd entirely missed the point that the pool was not 4' it was more like 5'& a half at the very least in the middle.

The bottom was deep in one place, correct in others, very deep in the middle. It was not the fact that no lifeguard was on duty, it was that they were in direct violation of OSHA (occupational, safety, and health association)regulations, for which I happened to be well versed in. No refund was offered, no confirmation that "thank you for letting us know, were sorry, we'll lock up the pool and put that one out of service since we have TWO others that our few guests could use". Nothing from a manager of an establishment where accidents can happen if OSHA regulations aren't followed.

At this point I'm thinking of checking out, but I said to myself that they have three pools and being the ever optimistic person, figured tomorrow we'd go to the other indoor pool since I'd been there before and had a good time. I'd just never been to that particular indoor pool I just ate some of the snacks we'd brought, as they did too because all the food was atrocious, except when we checked out and went to this little restaurant/bar in the lobby where the did was great and service was too, but that was when we had checked OUT. Guess you have to check in, get the maintenance man to show you the trick to make your ac work, call for towels because there were none, call for blankets since there were none, call, call, call; then check out to enjoy any of it except the other indoor pool on the second day which was marked 3' in front of black line, 4 feet beyond perfect, and we all could walk it as it should be. When we checked out I sent my daughter-in-law to do it because I could not look them in the face and keep my cool, I did not want to make an uncouth scene.

We get home, I'm mad of course.

All I can see in my mind eye was my daughter's panicked face and flailing arms going under. I call the corporate office if choice hotels, which this hotel belongs to, and they just offered me points towards my NEXT STAY. Again, no assurance that the pool would be locked down until they investigate, empty and level the cement at the bottom to its correct depth. No refund offered for the stay or bad room service, etc.

Honestly, having been in a managerial (government contract Manager for over 20 years., (the reason I'm well versed in OSHA regs), to keep my Choice Members happy, as well as to make up for what happened; I would have locked that pool immediately and offered a refund for the stay and room service, then apologized my *** off for what happened and could have happened. No, none of that happened. I feel like going back to the hotel with the police or a local OSHA rep and measuring the depth of that pool so they WILL lock it up before someone dies. Actually, I think that's just what I'll do.

I was told once by a police detective friend of mine whilst talking about why, at times, tragedies that could have been avoided were not addressed beforehand, and he said "Unfortunately, oftentimes it takes a death, as sad as that is, for people to take action". That's one of the saddest truths I've ever heard. I'm not the kind of person to turn a blind eye.

Choice Hotels, and Raddison Hotel Airport in El Paso TX, I hope your paying attention, because I'm not going to stop until I get some kind of confirmation that this problem is fixed. My next stop, BBB and on up.

User's recommendation: Avoid this hotel if you can't swim well and intend to go take a dip in one of the indoor pools or have kids that are going to swim indoors. One of the indoor pools is incorrectly depth marked. Room service sucks if you order late in the evening.

Oh NO! Not the all powerful BBB.

That'll really show them you mean business! LMAO!

Your daughter doesn’t belong in ANY pool unless a trained lifeguard is present.

Do Not Stay Here #filthy

I stayed at the EconoLodge located at 317 Highway 80 E, Mesquite, TX from 1/1-1/7. I swapped rooms three times and all the rooms had the same issues.

The front desk person accompanied me to check the rooms and a handle came off the faucet as I tried to turn it on. The water was lukewarm and the place looks nothing like online.

I tried calling customer service at 800-300-**** but was only offered 12,000 points for this inconvenience. I submitted a case for the general manager (case #1268****), called the establishment, and was advised that no refund could be provided.

The hotel hangs up on me when I ask for the general manager

Original review Nov 15, 2024
I was not going to complain about the hotel BUT
When we arrived at the hotel. We saw dried poo stains on our sheets.
We gave it back to the maids and they gave us another sheet that had dried poo stains
We did our best to clean it ourselves.
Also the floors were black.
They need to be steam cleaned between guests as this is a pet friendly hotel which is why we chose it for our vacation.
We realized this because of a spill and when we went to clean it, the floor came up black, not the color of the spill.
We all started vomiting and I had diarrhea we asked for extra toilet paper AND an extra bin and liners.
The night person, Rick, at first flat out refused the bin and told me to come get the toilet paper myself.
I said I would vomit in the hallways if I did that so he finally agreed to bring me the toilet paper.
Before I leave any hotel room, I take videos to have proof we didnt do any damage.
Upon checking out we were told the incidental fees of $50 was released back to us but yesterday I saw it was charged to my credit card.
When I call the hotel Im told that we damaged the sheets???
They said the maids took pics of the sheets with stains that were unwashable???
That could be ANYBODY sheets.
Yet Arjun is refusing to refund me.
I took video of the room to prove I did not do any damage.
I also took some screen shots to show the company.

Overcharged at one of their circle hotels

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I booked a one night stay at the Radisson I was happy with the price the hotel was nice. then 2 days later I looked at my statement and realized I was charged 475.

of unauthorized charges the next day after my stay concluded. I left mess after mess no response from the hotel.

I disputed the charges with hopes of recovering the loss. 475 on a one night stay is absolutely unacceptable I contacted choice which they are apart of and they just said keep trying not one time offerd any kind of credit or help with the matter so shame on them as well.

the fact that they are a part of choice and I'm a member of choice if choice can't help me recover my money they could offer to compensate with credit or points but they have said 4times already I'm on my own

What was the breakdown of charges on your statement? Why are you calling them unauthorized charges?

Are they charges you did not make that were billed to your room? Spa?

Salon? Room service?

Guest

What was the hotel's response to your bank, when you disputed the charge? If you did not get your money back, your bank should be able to tell you what the additional charges are for (example: they claim you smoked in the room, damaged property, etc).

Hotel declined to accept online bank debit card for deposit - then declined to refund reservation

Contains 1 confidential file for company representatives

Paid $62.34 for reservation thru Agoda for Nov 19-30. Upon arrival at hotel (Clarion at 8444 International Drive, Orlando) to check in, attempted to use online bank (Chime) debit card to cover the deposit.

The hotel declined to accept the card as matter of policy - they claim not to accept cards from non 'brick and mortar's bank - which was not documented/disclosed on their website or during the reservation process.

I had to make other reservations for the night...

I applied for a refund thru Agoda. Clarion.

Did not respond to multiple queries from Agoda. When they finally replied, they declined to provide a refund claiming a 'no show' when I had attempted to check in.

The hotel should both refund the paid reservation, and clearly document the debit card restriction on their website, etc.

It is on the hotel's website!!!! This is copied and pasted from the Clarion site about this hotel: "Hotel will charge on a credit/debit card 50.00 USD refundable deposit at check in.

This deposit will be refunded back at checkout. The Hotel no longer accepts CASH deposits. The hotel does not accept any prepaid or virtual cards as form of payment for the deposit examples being Chime, Cash app, Venmo, and PayPal". If it was not on the Agoda website, that is not the fault of the hotel because they have no control what another company puts on their website.

They can ask them to update or provide better information, but they cannot make Agoda (or Booking, Expedia, Priceline, etc) do anything. Again, this is why you should always go to the hotel's website and book direct. Agoda has your money, not the hotel. You are the customer of Agoda, NOT the hotel.

It sounds like you booked a non-refundable room, which means No Refunds from Agoda. In the future, again, do better and book direct to avoid these silly shenanigans.

Guest

I don't know of any hotel that accepts payments thru things like Chime, Zelle, etc. If you had booked directly with the brand, instead of using a 3rd party middleman, in your attempt to save a few bucks, you would have known this.

Comfort inn and suites Mall of America

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Choice Hotels International - Comfort inn and suites Mall of America
Updated by user Jul 28, 2024

Called corporate and logged a case. Been a week now and nothing.

Hotel did nothing to try to make things right and now fighting to get the first night removed from our bill like they said they would. What a mess.

Original review updated Jul 21, 2024
Booked a stay weeks in advance for my wife and 2 little kids to comfort in. And suites.

Our flight out of Nashville was delayed, as were most flights in America. We called ahead to ensure our room would still be available and they confirmed. However, we arrived after 1am to find no rooms available. The lady at the reception claimed we booked through a 3rd party site, which we did not.

They offered to send us to another hotel and provide two rooms instead of one, although we haven't yet seen if they will try and charge us for this. About an hour later, we arrived at a dreadful 1-star motel. The two rooms they gave us were located on opposite ends. It was after 2 am and we were out of options.

It was around 4 am when my kids finally stopped crying from this whole ordeal. I've added a picture of where they sent us.
The following morning, we had to pay for an Uber back to the hotel. There was no offer to cover these costs by the hotel. I repeatedly asked if they could offer any compensation for the inconvenience they caused us in the form of a free night, better room or passes to the Mall of America, but they showed no interest.

They seemed indifferent to whether we cancelled our stay or not. The lady at the front desk certainly didn't seem interested in making things right. Regrettably, there is nothing else available in our price range in this location, so we are still here for 2 more nights, but the likelihood of me staying at a Choice hotel again is slim to none.
I understand that there were major issues in the USA on Friday, but for the place to confirm that we were okay to arrive when we did, and then not to try and make things right, shows poor customer service. To add to the dissatisfaction, the gentleman that tried to help us at night was very nice.

This was our very first experience with Minnesota as well. There is still time to make things right. I called corporate as well and lodged a complaint, although I'm not confident that they will resolve the matter while we're still here. After speaking with a corporate representative, I was transferred to someone who tried to persuade us to go to a timeshare stay.

After all that we went through, they thought we'd be interested in further stays. This isn't Choice Hotels International, but it is Choice Hotels.

There are 3rd party websites that mimic the actual hotel's website and make you think you are booking directly. Guest Reservations or Reservations Desk is on the these shady sites.

You really have to be careful and make triple sure you are booking directly.

Having said that, since you called and let them you were running late, your room should never have been given away. Please blast this particular location on Yelp, Tripadvisor and Google reviews.

My mother an i have stayed at this Roadway Inn motel at 3459 sw williston fl, why stay its affordable. My mother is elderly, disabled and limited to walking and a fall risk.

My Daughter also had a room here as well but left after one night due to bed bugs in her room. I have made numerous complaints about room safety, toilets not properly flushing and bathtub continuously back up with water along with the roach and other bugs that come into your room, I put tape on thed a/c wrong measurements thats a little big for the a/c unit so it has hole openings. This motel doesnt even have accomendation rooms for the elderly or handicap like my mother who cant get in a tub, my mother who is a fall risk yet the rooms have bed rails that sticks out the side of the beds so you hurt yourself, wall sockets falling apart or broken, bath room doors that want close completly or lock, the fungus and mold in bathroom light bowls and bathtubes, the staff Nisha i assume they own this motel threatens to put us out if we are short or late with our money and threatings us with calling the police. Now today as long as we been staying here they removed our outside trash can do to it being filled all the time yet where not the only family staying in this area or the only ones putting trash into the trash can.

The drugs and loud music and women selling them selves seems to go unnoticed yet they have cameras, most of there foreigners employees stay here at the motel which many days they want bring you towels or tissue paper, many days housekeepers leave the carts, towels bins out all night.

I called the Comfort Suites in Salem to request a refund since we are unable to make our trip there for June 7th - well over a week in advance. I spoke to Marie who said I didn't qualify for a refund due to the huge discount I received when booking this room with Expedia.

However, I had their site pulled up and saw the rate would be $170.

I failed to see how $22 is a huge discount. When I mentioned this, Marie laughed. So I asked her if she thought this was funny. She continued to be rude and condescending about my concern as to why I couldn't receive a refund.

I called the Customer Service line at Choice (1-80*-***-****) and was told that Expedia would have to issue the refund.

So, I called Expedia and they said Choice Hotels would have to issue the refund.

They attempted to call the hotel in Oregon with me on the line and the manager refused to refund me. Expedia said the choice to refund is that of Choice Hotel.

I called Customer Service again at Choice and they said they will not refund me. Period.

This is nothing short of theft and is absolutely unacceptable.

If I had made the same reservation on their website, I would receive a refund. Policy should not matter when life happens and reservations are cancelled within the company policy.

This is NOT how you treat your customers.

With so many choices of where to stay, I can tell you this experience has left me never wanting to stay at a Choice hotel moving forward. Terrible customer experience.

Retaliation for the filing of a formal complaint by staff management

Complaint Against Suburban Studios and Suites

3699 S Monaco Pkwy

Denver, CO 80237

Date: [Tuesday, July 16, 2024]

Complainant: [C.E.O. Josephis K.

Wade]

Reference: Stay at Suburban Studios and Suites from [April 22, 2024] to [July 16, 2024]

Complaint:

This letter serves as a formal complaint against your establishment regarding the poor service and mistreatment I faced during my extended stay from [April] to [July]. The incidents I wish to bring to your attention are detailed as follows:

Unequal Treatment by Staff:

During one of my visits to your front desk, I had a key made. The Spanish-speaking staff member treated me with less courtesy, professionalism, and respect than he had shown to the customer before me. The demeanor suggested that I was not entitled to the same respect.

He refused to make me a key without seeing my identification and later informed me that I owed the hotel money. Despite providing my ID, he refused to produce a key without explaining what I owed. He directed me to wait for the manager to resolve the issue. This behavior was repeated in two subsequent incidents.

Inconsistent Mail Service:

I experienced frequent difficulties in receiving mail.

Despite being informed that I had mail, the office failed to provide it on multiple occasions. The staff was unable to show me any mail I had received despite my repeated inquiries. This issue persisted over a period of 77 days.

Guest Discomfort:

When my guests visited the office to register, staff members made them feel uncomfortable. They were accused of being 'riff-raff' trying to sneak into the building.

This attitude was further exacerbated when a white male staff member accused me of having the side door propped open and threatened to kick me out if it was not fixed.

Unfounded Accusations:

On one occasion, I was assured by the office staff that I had received mail. However, when I returned the next day, the mail was nowhere to be found. This scenario repeated itself two more times. Additionally, when confronted about the accusations regarding the side door, a staff member refused to acknowledge the error, instead claiming that numerous staff members confirmed the presence of suspicious-looking guests in my room.

Early Eviction and Retaliation:

After filing a formal complaint with Choice Hotels, the manager became aware of my actions and that I had inquired about a refund.

In retaliation, I was asked to leave the premises within 48 hours, despite having tenants' rights. Staff members visited my room three times to force me to leave, threatening to call security if I did not comply within 15 minutes.

Personal Hygiene and Cleanliness:

Routinely, I did not receive fresh towels or have all my towels returned. This selective service was compounded by the unequal treatment I experienced from the staff.

False Allegations:

I was told that an unrelated girl was breaking into cars and said that she was associated with me.

This was followed by allegations of the same girl cursing out the hotel staff, resulting in false and malicious accusations.

Though I normally would be open to requesting a refund, I will empathize, as no one at this hotel did with me except for the manager before my complaints. For good measure, please address these issues by conducting a thorough investigation and taking appropriate actions to ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future.

Sincerely:

We stayed at this hotel 4/27/2024 while traveling through this area. The artwork in the room was hanging partially.

I was going to straighten the art so it wouldn't fall on my 86 yo aunt. When I attempted to straighten the artwork which had previously fallen and not been hung back correctly, the art fell and sliced my right middle finger. No first aid kit, no management onsite. Requested full refund due to the situation and lack of sleep this night.

GM offered 1/2 refund and as of 5/18/24, I have not received any refunds.

Incompetent staff. Wont stay with Choice hotels in the future due to the lack of assistance from corporate as well as the management of this location.

Choice hotels franchises to Indians and this is the inevitable result. Filth, thievery, and lying is the Indian way of life. Next time check Tripadvisor reviews and read the bad ones to avoid these places.
